Greetings from Our New Superintendent

August is here and I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer before we start back to school on September 1st.

I would like to introduce myself. My Name is Brett Baum and I am the new superintendent for the Great Northern School District. So who is Brett Baum? Well, I’ve been an educator for 33 years. 12 years as a teacher where I also coached several sports and was athletic director for 7 years. The last 21 years I have served as a school administrator in the Liberty and Okanogan school districts. I grew up south of here in the Palouse, attending school at Steptoe and Colfax. I attended college at EWU.

I have two daughters who are now in college and were very active in high school activities, sports, music and drama. My wife of 27 years, Lisa, is an elementary teacher with the Washington Virtual Academy. I look forward to following and being involved in the Great Northern community and activities just as we were in Okanogan and at Liberty.

The Great Northern School District has been a leader in their focus on supporting students learning and student safety as well as supporting staff in their work. I am super excited to be a part of the Great Northern team and to work with everyone involved throughout the school and across the district. As a community team we will strive to provide the best possible, safest learning environment for ALL of our students.

If you have any questions or concerns that you wish to share, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or by phone.

Brett Baum
